Wizards of the Coast announces a forthcoming revision to the Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition Game System License (GSL) and System Reference Document (SRD).
“We recognize the important role third party publishing support plays in the success of the 4th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons. We have listened to the community and our valued colleagues and have taken their concerns and recommendations to heart. Our commitment to the health of the industry and hobby gaming lifestyle is reflected in the revisions to the Game System License.” --Linae Foster D&D Licensing Manager
While the delivery date is not yet firmly established, the revised documents will be available in the very near future.
The new fan site policy, to be made public at a later date, will be posted upon completion.

Well, what else were they gonna do? People were just gonna make their own 4e "compatible" content and sell it without signing. The GSL was tantamount to handing them the reigns to your company.

Hopefully we won't be returning to the days of T$R trying to trademark every single word that might have something to do with the game (or folklore/mythology).
But, truth be told, I'm not entirely surprised. While I wouldn't expect any major changes, I would think that some sort of solid definition about what can/can't be included on the sites (to change with the new GSL). And maybe to put restrictions on websites that feature the "support us" donation boxes as well as 4th Ed. Rules.
Or maybe, just maybe, they're going to require that Lannia's avatars not be quite so...distracting...
